Project duration: 15 October 2018 – 31 December 2018

Objective

While technical issues are addressed in detail by universities in both research and teaching, topics such as social impact, communication, and intra/entrepreneurial skills are outside the comfort zone of many academics and so they are often neglected or only taught briefly. This project aims to enhance the teaching of these skills at leading technical universities by developing a course that provides training to students and requires them to incorporate such thought processes into engineering research projects. The project also aims to use expert trainers to improve the knowledge of university teachers to strengthen the future provision of education in these vital areas.

The solution (technology)

The intent of the course will be that students gain the skills needed to set their engineering challenges in an innovation context as well as develop an entre/intrapreneurial way forward plans. Such way forward plans require students to demonstrate innovation and entrepreneurship, leadership, organizational, and cultural awareness. This will prepare the students for later industrial and academic work and leadership.
