SUMMARY:Winter school on Sustainable mineral exploration
DESCRIPTION:Funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the University of Grenoble and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf\, PACIFIC and INFACT are studying the social acceptance of mining-related activities while developing mineral exploration technologies that have minimal environmental impacts.  At an early exploration stage\, field geologists and geophysicists are the first ones to engage with communities even if this is not part of their official curriculum. Their capacity to explain the technology they are applying and to initiate a dialogue with those communities can be critical to building trust and acceptance. \nThis 4-day winter school gathers speakers from research\, industry\, local authorities\, EU representatives and aims at covering the fundamental concepts of sustainable mineral exploration and associated technologies\, with a focus on geophysics and remote-sensing methods.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTopics covered during the Winter School\n\n\nMineral exploration in Europe and in Andalusia\nSocial and environmental aspects of exploration\nEuropean research on ore deposits and education initiatives\nSustainable exploration techniques theory and practices\nFieldwork on active mines: Rio Tinto and Cobre Las Cruces\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\nParticipation in the Winter School is free but places are limited.
