SUMMARY:VALOMAG online seminar
DESCRIPTION:EIT RawMaterials and the partners of VALOMAG project are delighted to invite you to attend the 1st VALOMAG seminar which will be held on 3 December 2021. \nNeodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB) based permanent magnets are indispensable for today’s technology-driven society\, and this dependence is likely to increase. They are used in a variety of applications such as robotic systems and home appliances; they are also essential for clean energy applications such as hybrid/electric vehicles and wind turbines. Metals as neodymium and dysprosium have a substantial supply risk and a high commercial value\, and the recycling of EoL products as waste NdFeB magnets is a promising route to alleviate the supply risk. \nThe VALOMAG project aims to supply a technical solution for recycling the permanent magnet disassembly from End-of-Life applications like computer hard disc drives\, electric vehicles\, and wind turbines. VALOMAG assesses two short loop recycling technologies for high and medium-quality magnet waste with a third alternative route using hydrometallurgical processes for low-quality waste magnets. \nThis seminar presents a technical and market overview of magnet recycling in the EU\, with current R&I initiatives like the SUSMAGPRO project and the progress of the VALOMAG project. \nProgramme\n10:00 – 10:20 introduction by EIT RawMaterials and presentation of the European RawMaterials Alliance (ERMA) Action Plan on Rare Earth Magnets and Motors – Roland Gauss (EIT RawMaterials) \n10:20 – 10:45 Valomag project (from pre-processing to making of new magnets) – Virginie Decottignies (SUEZ) \n10:45 – 11:15 Dismantling steps combining thermal treatment and fragmentation – Thibaut Marcon (CRM group) and Kathy Bru (BRGM) \n11:15 – 11:30 Coffee/tea break \n11:30 – 12:00 Transformation to the manufacturing of new magnets – Cyril Rado (CEA) and Boris Saje (Kolektor) \n12:00 – 12:30 Transformation to the production of REE oxides through hydrometallurgical routes – Nour-Eddine Menad (BRGM) \n12:30 – 13:30 Lunch break \n13:30 – 14:00 Mass Flow Analysis of the whole steps – Fernando Coelho (TU Delft) \n14:00 – 14:30 Life Cycle Analysis – Zhijie Li (Leiden University) \n14:30 – 14:45 Coffee/tea break \n14:45 – 15:15 Synthesis: discussion on the overall steps and VALOMAG project. \n15:15 – 15:45 Example of another R&I initiative on magnets recycling – SUSMAGPRO project – Carlo Burkhardt (Pforzheim University) \n15:45 – 16:30 Questions by the audience. (or another presentation; perhaps by the 2 MSc graduates). \nVia: MS Teams (a link will be sent a few days before the seminar)
