SUMMARY:INNOMAT course on Critical Raw Materials and the Life Cycle Assessment Methodology
DESCRIPTION:The INNOMAT course has been developed to provide insights on the issue of critical raw materials (CRM’s) along with the basics of the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology. \nNowadays\, there is increasing pressure from society to produce and operate with less environmental burdens. The course provides an overview of how LCA can help SME’s and industry\, in general\, to tackle the issue of CRM’s from an environmental perspective. The course will provide you with the tools to perform a basic LCA on your own and the insights to interpret the results from advanced LCAs. \nThis free 2-day course will be held on 17-18 June 2019 at Avenue Louise 65 in Brussels.  \nThe program is the following: \nThursday\, 17 June: Life Cycle Analysis and critical raw materials (LCA/CRM)\n9:30 – 10:00          Welcome and introduction \n10:00 – 12:00        Basics of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) – LCA example (Felt-tip pen) \n12:00 – 13:00        Lunch \n13:00 – 15:00        LCA Exercise (Batteries) \n15:00 – 17:00        Basics of critical raw materials (CRM’s) – LCA exercise on CRM’s (Magnet) \nFriday\, 18 June: Product and business innovation (CRM)\n9:30 – 10:00          Welcome \n10:00 – 12:00        Product and process innovation\, business model – Exercise on Business Model Canvas \n12:00 – 13:00        Lunch \n13:00 – 15:00        Eco-efficient value creation and eco-design \n15:00 – 17:00        Application of LCA and Eco-efficient value creation \nThis program is designed to make Europe more strategically resistant to material shortages also making a significant contribution to European competitiveness and European employment. Experienced professors from the University of Ghent will lead you through the day\, answer your questions and be your sparring partner for all kinds of ideas. Lunch\, coffee and tea for the course participants are free of charge during the course. This first edition will be free of charge\, but later in 2019 and 2020\, the course will also be given with an approximate cost of 700 € (for Belgium). \nYou can sign up sending an e-mail to david.sanjuandelmas@ugent.be.
