DESCRIPTION:P5 stands for People\, Planet\, Profit\, Process and Product. The P5 Impact Analysis is a tool that can be utilized to assess and/or compare options for various project components\, to facilitate making sustainability-informed decisions and recommendations for the best possible outcomes of a project\, aligned with the 5Ps. \nProgramme\nCourse description \nThe world’s growing population and shift to global equality creates a dependence on mining. However\, external stakeholders are changing the space of environmental assessment and engagement processes and requirements\, regulatory requirements\, and management standards for such developments. \nExternal stakeholders now want to either be involved in the decision-making process\, or to be able to clearly see how impacts to people and planet have been considered and avoided for large developments.\nP5 helps to serve this need\, and was developed as a sustainability framework to facilitate improvements in project proposals and future developments. \nThe P5 Impact Analyses introduces a means to: \n\nFocus on\, and integrate social\, environmental and financial considerations into the planning\, decision-making\, design and operational strategies of proposed infrastructure and developments\, and to\nImprove transparency of proposed plans amongst the design team & stakeholders involved in the process\, including visibility on whether the risks and concerns of both internal and external stakeholders have been identified\, considered\, and managed in those plans.\n\nThe course will be taught live – virtually\, in a group setting over the course of three x 3-hour sessions\, with a large proportion of time dedicated to applied and interactive exercises. Hands-on learning is the best strategy for everyone to fully comprehend lessons\, as well as to be able to repeat the processes on their own projects\, and as such more than half of the class duration will involve active\, applied work within the class. \nCourse content \nThe following will be covered in this workshop: \nIntroduction of P5 & Impact Analyses \n\nDescribe project aspects to consider: People\, Planet\, Profit\, Process and Product\nIndicate indicator relations to ISO Standards\, the Global Reporting Initiative G4 indicators\, the Sustainable Development Goals\, and the UN Global Compact Ten Principles\n\nOptions Identification\, Analyses & Decision Making \n\nExplore impacts activities might have on external receptors\nHighlight interdependencies within complex development proposals\nTeach and review a comparative analysis framework that works to compare design and process options for all types of projects\, by cross-functional project teams\, from a 360° standpoint\n\nExercises will include: \n\nShort exercises to help engage the class at the start of each session\, and encourage recognition of differing perspectives\, knowledge and experiences\nExtended breakout discussions around the 5Ps for a particular case study\, to help gain a full appreciation of how these relate to real projects & how we might prioritize aspects\nStaged and directed brainstorming around various options for an example project component\, including related risks and requirements\, and possible concerns or benefits\, utilizing checklists and examples\nExtended breakout discussions to compare and contrast\, then rank potential solutions on a case study\, taking into account the numerous requirements\, pros and cons of each\nPresentation and comparison of results from various “teams” in the classroom\n\nThe lecture materials and guidance document to use following the class will be provided to students\, along with a licensed P5 manual\, developed by GPM Global. A case study with relevant details will be provided for the class to utilize throughout the course\, including pictures\, small maps and a critical “event scenario” to manage. \nCollaboration spreadsheets\, virtual whiteboard and engagement tools will be utilized during class exercises to support the virual format. \nType of training \nThis online course is a combination of e-learning and group work. \nOther: Online engagement and collaboration tools \nObjectives and outcome \nAfter taking this course\, participants will: \n\nHave a good understanding of mining-relevant 5Ps: People\, Planet\, Profit\, Process & Product\, and how each align with ISO standards\, the Sustainable Development Goals\, the UN Global Compact Guiding Principles\, and GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines\nHave a transparent framework to engage multi-discipline teams in dialogue about 5P issues\nBe able to perform high-level gap assessments on their current projects regarding 5P issues\nBe able to utilize the 5P analysis framework to compare design and process options for all types of projects\, with multi-discipline\, multi-stakeholder teams\n\nBe able to demonstrate how and why a decision was made between project options \nLanguage \nEnglish \nRequirements \nParticipants would require their own laptop and a stable high-speed internet connection to take part in this course. \nTarget Group\nThis course is best suited for Project Managers\, Engineers & Assessment Professionals who: \n\nhave 5 or more years of experience in mining\,\nwant to avoid re-work &/or change requests stemming from external stakeholders\,\ndesire a better means to communicate and manage the complexities and system-based risks associated with mining developments
