SUMMARY:Harnessing the Opportunities of the Solid Minerals Sector in Nigeria
DESCRIPTION:The European Union (EU) is one of the major trading partners of Nigeria. Solid minerals raw materials are critical to the EU industrial sector and economy. However\, some factors\, which include increased demand by emerging economies\, shift in trade policies\, inadequate supply and increasing demand by the producing countries amongst others\, are limiting accessibility to these raw materials. Consequently\, the EU industries need to explore new sources of mineral raw materials to mitigate the risk of non-availability and ensure sustainable operations. The data on Nigeria’s solid mineral raw materials sector will assist raw materials supply chain managers\, prospective investors and researchers with information on availability\, quantity\, quality\, sustainable supply and government policies in the mineral raw materials sector to plan their operations and make sound business decisions. \nProgramme\nCourse description \nThe course will discuss Nigeria’s selected solid mineral resources\, their distribution across the country\, estimated and proven reserves\, classification according to uses\, quality characteristics according to user industries specification\, public and private sector organisations and their roles in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector\, international trade in Nigeria’s solid minerals\, government policies affecting exploitation\, exploration and trade in the solid minerals sector\, such as incentives\, environmental and other regulatory issues. \nThe course is designed to provide information and knowledge on Nigeria’s solid minerals sector to enable participants from the European Union to identify suitable solid mineral raw materials for their operations\, evaluate the suitability or otherwise of the raw materials\, plan and make sound decision on solid mineral raw materials procurement and their sustainable supply\, assess the impact of government policies on the solid mineral raw materials sector in Nigeria\, analyse the roles and impact of public and private stakeholders on the sector. \nCourse contents \n\nOverview of Nigeria’s Economy\nOverview of Nigeria’s Solid Minerals Sector\nClassification of the Solid Minerals Based on Uses\nDistribution of the Solid Minerals\nEstimated/ proven reserves of the Solid Minerals\nLicenses Issued on selected Solid Minerals\nProduction of Selected Solid Minerals\nQuality and specifications of Selected Solid Minerals\nStakeholder organisations and their roles in Nigeria’s Solid Minerals Sector\nInternational trade in Nigeria’s Solid Minerals\nGovernment policies affecting the exploration\, exploitation\, utilisation and export of the Solid Minerals\n\nThe course would last two days with one and a half hours lecture per day\, including question and answer session and interactive activities. \nDay 1 \nOverview of Nigeria’s economy and its solid mineral resources endowment\, distribution and classification of selected solid mineral raw materials based on user- industries. Estimated/ proven reserves and quantities of selected solid mineral raw materials. Mineral raw materials samples. Interactive discussion and feedback \nTime: To be\, fixed based on the time zones of registered participants \nDay 2 \nQuality and specifications of selected solid mineral raw materials\, public and private stakeholder organisations and their roles in Nigeria’s solid mineral raw materials sector. International trade in selected Nigeria’s solid mineral raw materials\, government policies affecting the exploration\, exploitation\, utilisation and export of the raw materials. Interactive discussion and feedback \nTime: To be fixed based on the time zones of registered participants \nType of training \nThis course is a combination of online lecture\, interactive discussion\, review sessions and feedback questions. \nObjectives and outcomes \nThe course is designed to provide participants from the European Union information and knowledge on the opportunities in Nigeria’s solid minerals sector. At the end of the course participants will be able to identify suitable solid mineral raw materials for their operations\, evaluate the suitability or otherwise of the raw materials\, plan and make sound decision on solid mineral raw materials procurement and their sustainable supply\, assess the impact of government policies on the solid mineral raw materials sector in Nigeria\, analyse the roles and impact of public and private stakeholders on the sector. \nLanguage \nEnglish \nRequirements \nParticipants would require an own laptop and a stable high-speed internet connection to take part in this course. \nTarget Group\nThis course is best suited for Project Managers\, Engineers & Assessment Professionals who: \n\nhave 5 or more years of experience in mining\,\nwant to avoid re-work &/or change requests stemming from external stakeholders\,\ndesire a better means to communicate and manage the complexities and system-based risks associated with mining developments
