SUMMARY:Entrepreneurship for scientists
DESCRIPTION:This course has been postponed! Please check back on the course website for details of new dates.\nPurpose and intended learning outcomes\nThis is an introductory course in entrepreneurship and business development for academic researcher and students in geology or mining and material science. The hypothesis is that a lot of academic researchers have ideas\, insights and technologies that may be turned into valuable business\, but they lack the competence in business development. The aim of the course is to educate in basic business development and help academic researchers with good ideas to take them one step further. \nPrerequisites (academic\, special skills needed)\nNo specific prerequisites. However\, there are a number of workshops in the course in which the students are supposed to develop business cases for their own ideas or technologies to be commercialized. Therefore\, it is excellent if you have an invention of your own to bring to the course to develop further. If you do not have an invention or technology to develop into a business\, you are still welcome and can follow the course by working with a selected demo invention. \nSchedule and time plan\n25. – 29.05.2020 \nVenue for classroom work\nRoyal Institute of Technolog (Drottning Kristinasväg 61b)\, Stockholm\, Sweden \nContent and modules\nThe course is five days long and will cover the following lectures: \n\nInnovation Due Diligence\nPatent Landscaping\nBusiness Model Canvas\nCustomer Assessment\nPitching for Larger Companies\n\nAll theoretical lectures will be follow by practical workshops in which you develop your own business case. \nInstruction and course literature\nNo specific literature to be read prior to the course. Documentation will be distributed during the course in form of PowerPoint decks. \nAssessment\nThe course will not end with a formal examination but with a pitch of your business case developed during the week in front of a jury. \nCourse responsible teachers\nErik Ronne (Research Institutes of Sweden; RISE) \nPracticalities\nApplication criteria and priority\n\nPriority will be given to students affiliated with EIT Raw Material organizations\, but applications are welcomed from other academic institutions and industry.\nCourse size is limited to 16 participants\nApply here.\n\nAccommodation (room and board)\nApproximate accommodation costs in Stockholm: 70 Euros per day. \nTravel\nTravel to Stockholm (Royal Technical University) is easiest via arrival at Stockholm Arlanda airport and train or bus to Stockholm city. \nS+H\, insurance\, Safety equipment and clothing\nNot applicable \nCourse stipends\n\nSuccessful admissions will be considered for a stipend to offset costs of accommodation and food\, and when possible travel. There is no registration fee to participate in courses offered through I-EDDA-RS.
