SUMMARY:Course on Circular Residue Usage in the Metallurgical Industry
DESCRIPTION:The course on Circular Residue Usage in the Metallurgical Industry is developed within the EIT RawMaterials Academy and is aimed for professionals in metallurgical industry and research institutes\, PhD students\, environmental agencies and decision makers. Engineers new in the area can get a quick start at the new job positions\, and experienced ones can reach a broader knowledge on cross-sectorial opportunities. \nThe course includes a webinar introducing the course and the participants\, and also giving a brief overview on secondary materials\, their origin and characteristics as well as possible use. Moreover\, possible case studies for training will be discussed and initialised. The webinar is followed by a face-to-face intensive course and a final follow-up seminar for case study presentations. \nKnowledge on secondary materials that will be delivered covers secondary materials generated in different metallurgical industries as well as EOL products. Origin and characteristics for these materials\, and also possibilities and challenges in recycling to existing processes in e.g. steel\, ferroalloys and base metals production\, will be addressed. Pre-treatment methods\, agglomeration and specially-designed processes for recycling will also be covered. Aspects on cross-sectorial possibilities\, environmental issues and economy will to some extent be included. \nProject organisation\nThe CIRRUS project is coordinated by Swerea MEFOS with Luleå University of Technology\, University of Oulu\, KU Leuven and LKAB as partners. It is co-funded by EIT RawMaterials in connection with CAMM (Centre of Advanced Mineral and Metallurgy). \nSchedule and content\nTuesday 10 April 09:00-12:00\nLocation: Webinar \nIntroduction to the course and participants\, basic knowledge on secondary materials\, their origin and characteristics as well as challenges and possibilities in recycling. \nMonday\, 11 June – Friday\, 15 June (lunch to lunch) – Intensive course\nLocation: Luleå University of Technology\, Luleå\, Sweden \nFrom the content: Further development on webinar topics\, characterisation methods for secondary materials\, pre-treatment and agglomeration\, recycling into ferrous\, base metal\, ferro-alloy and non-ferrous industry\, special processes for recycling etc. Moreover\, support to case studies with topics selected by the participants. \nWednesday 19 September – Follow-up seminar\nLocation: Luleå University of Technology\, Luleå\, Sweden \nPresentation and discussion on case studies. \nRegistration\nLast day for registration is Friday\, 23 March. \nThe course\, given in English\, is free of charge including refreshments. Lunch is available to buy on site. The number of participants is limited to 30. \nRegister here
