SUMMARY:A new flagship initiative - Hubs for Circularity
DESCRIPTION:A new flagship initiative – Hubs for Circularity (H4C): Concept\, opportunities & challenges for a successful implementation’ that will take place from 10:15 to 16:00 am on the 21st April 2021.\nStakeholders and experts from industry\, SMEs\, RTOs\, academia\, MS and regions will discuss how to progress on consolidating aspects regarding the implementation of H4Cs that require a consensus agreement from the community. The main objective of the workshop will be to prepare for future calls on H4Cs in order to ensure that key aspects for effective implementation are identified and tackled in advance to reach high participation\, outstanding proposals and a high success rate. The H4Cs will be key instruments to advance the R&I agenda of European industries towards the Green Deal’s objectives. Practical examples and lessons learned will show that making the transition to Industrial symbiosis\, Urban Industrial symbiosis and circular economy provide gains that out weight the effort and risks. \nThe first part of the workshop will be opened by Peter Dröll\, Director Prosperity\, DG R&I\, followed by Peter Berkovitz\, DG REGIO – Head of Smart and Sustainable Growth Unit\, and with information on the concept\, why it could make the difference for achieving the Green Deal objectives and how it would be an opportunity for EU regions. A panel discussion will follow with examples of successful first implementations. The afternoon part will introduce the challenges for a successful implementation: communication\, IPR\, regulation and standardization\, access to energy and resources\, investments beyond HE. Four panel discussions will be organised with speakers from industry\, EU projects and the Commission. The closing remarks will be given by Jürgen Tiedje\, Head of Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Biotechnologies Unit\, DG R&I. \nThe registration will be open until 18 April and must be done by sending an email to RTD-H4C-WORKSHOP-0421@ec.europa.eu \nAgenda:\n10:15-12:00 1st Session – Rationale\, concept and scene-setting \n10:15-10:25 Welcome address by Peter Dröll – DG RTD – Director\, Prosperity Directorate \n10:25-10:40 Regional funding/Circular Economy – Peter Berkovitz\, DG REGIO – Head of Smart and Sustainable Growth Unit \n\nQ&A \n\n10:40-11:10 H4C: Introduction to the concept \n\nThe views of the industry: Industrial Symbiosis and its challenges (barriers) and possible facilitation aspects – Angels Orduna\, ASPIRE\nThe opportunities under in Horizon Europe Work Programme 21-22- Destination 1 –section H4C – Dominique Planchon (RTD F3)\nQ&A\n\n11:10-12:00 Feedback from Member States and regions: Impact of a future H4C on climate and circularity – Panel\, Moderator Ludo Diels (P4P partnership) \n\nSetting the scene – Greet Van Ertveld – Coordinator EPOS project\n3 examples from regions: NL (Smart Delta Region\, Patrick Lafontaine)\, ES (Asturias Region\, Ana Elena Fernández Monzón – IDEPA)\, PL (Rudniki cluster\, Edyta Teperska)\nQ&A\n\n12:00-13:00 Lunch break \n13:00-16:00 2nd Session – Practical Questions \n13:00-13:10 RTD Communication platform \nPresentation of the future H4C website\, European Community of Practice\, ECoP – Sandra Milev (RTD E1-Communication Officer) \n13:10-13:50 Technology transfer and IPR management – Panel\, Moderator Denis Dambois (GROW.C.4 Intangible Economy) \n\nIndustry P4P\, Dorota Pawlucka – COVESTRO\, Cliona Howie del Río – Head of Circular Economy – EIT Climate-KIC\, experience from EPOS project funded under H2020 Alexandre Bredimas -Strane Innovation\nQ&A\n\n13:50-14:30 Waste regulation & Standardization – Panel\, Moderator Pavel Misiga (RTD C1 – Head of Unit Circular Economy & Biobased Systems) \n\nNatalia Alandete (Scaler project)\, Enriche Garcia John (DG ENV Waste Management & Secondary Materials)\, Felice Alfieri / Christoforos Spiliotopoulos (JRC.B5 Circular Economy & Industrial Leadership)\, Rachel Lombardi (International Synergies) on Circlean project\nQ&A 20 min\n\n14:30-15:10 Access to energy and resources in the H4C – Moderator William Neale (DG ENV – Adviser for Circular economy) \n\nEIT Climate-KIC (Maria Loloni)\, EIT RawMaterials (Dr Ignacio Calleja)\, Lisbeth Randers from Kalundborg Symbiose\nQ&A 20 min\n\n15:10-15:50 Investments beyond Horizon Europe to achieve commercial size– Panel\, Moderator Shiva Dustdar EIB\, Head of Division Innovation Finance Advisory \n\nPresentations EIB (InvestEU – EDP Gilles Badot)\, Bio-Economy fund (Celine Rottier)\, Industry expectations/Community of Practice (speaker from SPIRE/P4P)\, Myriam Boveda (DG REGIO.G.1 – Smart and Sustainable Growth)\nQ&A 20 min\n\n15:50-16:00 Closing: Conclusions – Jürgen Tiedje\, DG RTD E3\, HoU Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Biotechnologies
