SUMMARY:Natural\, social and economic forced shaping the mineral industry - how will the mineral industry evolve? 2
DESCRIPTION:The course discusses the natural\, social and economic forces and events that shape the mineral industry. \nProgramme\nCourse description \nThe mineral industry is subject to \n\nits natural constraints – the characteristics of known and potential mineral deposits\, the growing complexity and increased access difficulty to mineral and energy resources and\, e.g. climate change\,\na wide variety of possible external shocks – e.g. war\, commercial conflicts\, financial crisis\, pandemics and social clashes\, and\nthe technological\, economical and social trends – including political risk\, global power shifts\, market volatility\, climate change\, circular economy\, the companies’ social responsibility and social license to operate\, the world’s population demographic and available income growth.\n\nHow will the mineral industry evolve subject to those forces and events? Rather than a traditional course\, a collaborative workshop; rather than a presentation\, a discussion – the course aims to involve the participants in discussions leading into insights of the future of the mineral industry. \nCourse contents \nThis is an introductory course with five chapters and six modules during five weeks \n\nWeek 1: Chapter 1 – Mother Nature – Minerals and Mineral deposits\, pandemics and Climate Change\,\nWeek 2: Chapter 2 – Social and Economic Trends\,\nWeek 3: Chapter 3 – Global power shifts\,\nWeek 4: Chapter 4 – Technology disruption and the rise of the machines\,\nWeek 5: Chapter 5 – New frontiers and insights into the future.\n\nThe course is designed for a weekly time investment of 1\,5 hours. Naturally\, should the participant wish to further study reading the selected bibliography made available and participating in forum discussions (see above) – which we recommend\, as it is an opportunity to learn from their peers\, the time investment is higher. This is\, however\, flexible and entirely optional. \nType of training \nThis course is designed as distance-learning. It is organized in modules along five weeks. Each module includes: \n\nPre-recorded video materials and quizzes – for independent learning.\nSelected bibliography – for independent learning.\nA weekly one-and-a-half hour live workshop\, including the presentation and discussion of the module topics. The live session will include open discussions\, work in smaller groups and the elaboration of an informal report on the theme discussed.\n\nThe course will also have a dedicated LinkedIn group for course follow-up\, exchange and discussion of ideas and course topics. \nObjectives and outcomes \nAfter the course participants will have a wide range knowledge of and be able to identify the forces shaping the mineral industry\, be they economic\, social\, technological or natural and of the main. \nParticipants will also be able to identify and characterise the development scenarios for the industry in the XXI century. \nParticipants will be able to integrate the new knowledge on the raw materials industry (and their companies and projects) into their decision-making\, policy-design or reporting processes. \nLanguage \nEnglish \nRequirements \nParticipants would require their own laptop and a stable high-speed internet connection to take part in this course. \nTarget Group\nThe course’s intended audience includes professionals\, managers\, decision-makers and post-graduate students involved in the raw materials industry and interested in discussing and get an insight into future scenarios for the mineral industry: \n\nManagers of financial institutions and funds\,\nPotential investors in raw materials projects\,\nOfficials from government (local\, state and federal) agencies and institutions\,\nMedia professionals covering the mineral industry\,\nGraduate and post-graduate geology\, mining\, mineral processing and metallurgy students\,\nManagers of mining and exploration companies.

SUMMARY:Entrepreneurship for raw materials students – online course
DESCRIPTION:This is an online course in entrepreneurship and business development for students in geo-\, mining or material sciences as well as academic researchers. A lot of students have ideas\, insights and technologies that may be turned into valuable business\, but they lack the competence in business development. \nThe aim of the course is to educate students in basic business development and help them as well as academic researchers with good ideas to take them one step closer to becoming innovations for the market. \nTarget Participants: \nPriority will be given to PhD students affiliated with EIT RawMaterial organisations\, but applications are welcome from other academic institutions and industry. \nThere are no specific prerequisites for the course. However\, there are a number of workshops in the course in which the students are supposed to develop business cases for their own ideas or technologies to be commercialised. Therefore\, it is recommended to bring your own study case to the course. If not\, you are still welcome and can follow the course by working with an available case. \nDeadline for registration: 30 September 2020. DESCRIPTION:  \nLightweight Professional is going online! All modules of the lightweight professional course are currently being converted to an online format.  There will be no classroom seminars in 2020. All further information and dates will be announced here soon.\nReducing the weight of structures has in recent years become a critical point of focus for many different sectors\, such as machine building\, transportation and civil construction. The appropriate handling of materials in lightweight design structures is the key success factor for preserving resources and reducing costs. Unfortunately\, practical experience often shows that designing and handling rules for new materials are not being respected. \nThe professional training concept underlying the »lightweight professional« courses address this issue. \nWithin these courses\, industrial employees (managers as well as engineers and technical staff members) will not only obtain information\, but also acquire the knowledge in a manner appropriate to their individual educational backgrounds.  Based on results from a recent Europe-wide survey\, the content and the format of the »lightweight professional courses« are designed to meet industrial needs. \nLightweight professional courses aim to deliver high quality content and ready-to-use practical information. Participants will experience an open environment atmosphere with the opportunity to exchange experiences with other participants and industrial branches. \nThe courses follow the requirements of ISO EN 17024 and are certified by an external accreditation body.

SUMMARY:Creating Exploration Companies - Start Up Template 1
DESCRIPTION:This course will discuss creation of exploration startup ‘Inkubator’ companies with a hands on approach of creating a group start up company and funding it with aspects including legal\, technical and corporate. Day Two will involve operations\, including ongoing funding mechanisms\, shareholder communication and endgame scenarios. \n\n\nProgramme\nCourse description \nStart Up Template will enable resource industry professionals maximise the value of their intellectual capital. This will be achieved by a practical exercise and creation of a joint Company or ‘NewCo’ with exposure to corporate processes to from a leadership or founder position. Ideas generated by technical people on the resources industry including exploration and or mining/processing concepts should be protected not only by patent if possible but by protecting the tenure of the idea. \nThe course is broken into two days of learner centred training detailing group exercise of company formation one day one\, followed by company operations in the early stages. Probable endgames for the company and its new shareholders. \nAn important element to the course is the pivot away from areas of technical comfort all geologists\, engineers or general technical people have\, into the importance of commercialising their ideas without over reliance on a finance industry always ready to monetise an idea without a holistic view on benefits to shareholders\, community and the likely end game or outcome for the enterprise in the medium to long term. \nEarly creation of a capital growth plan is a key area the group will discuss and work on to produce for the joint NewCo. Discussion of real world presentations will also be analysed in a group environment and mock Investment Bank analyst reviews. Day two will equip participants to develop a plan for ongoing operations beyond the period of initiation of the company into the critical post ‘honeymoon’ stage of a NewCo. \nCourse content \nDay One: Company Assembly \nDefinition of an ‘Exploration’ Company and its components. \n\nAsset Selection Methodology – Look to Global Long Term trends\nTeam Selection Methodology – Experience Early\n\n\nCreate – Agree outline of objectives\nEvaluate – Debate Group Company Objectives and Demand for ‘Product’ – ie the shares of the Company\nApply – First Share offer for Seed capital – how to pitch this and structure Share register.\nAnalyse – Post Offer Review positives or negatives – Did we sell it too cheaply or fail to sell it as too expensive?\nUnderstand – Shareholders are now co owners – treat them as such and they will come back for more.\nRemember – We will test our NewCo concept with independent corporates to receive feedback\, and marking of concept will incorporate a German Investment Bankers (DGWA www.dgwa.org)  view of the ability to ‘sell’ the product.\n\nDay Two: Company Operations – Corporate \n\nCapital Growth Program\n\nTypes of Capital Available – Pros and Cons\n\nRights Issues\nPlacements (Private and Public)\nShare Purchase Plans\nDebt Facilities\n\n\n\n\n News Flow Plan\n\nExamples of effective News Flow – the blood in the veins of a cash negative company.\n\n\nShareholder and Stakeholder Communications – Post Seed Capital\n\nImportance of Corporate and Governance Support.\nNormal tension points in the early stages of operations.\nEnd game scenarios.\n\n\n\nType of training \nThis online course is a combination of e-learning\, computer-based learning\, videos and group work (home study). \nObjectives and outcome \nStudents will be able to apply a template as per below of how to commercialise their ideas in the key area of competition and value creation in the Resources Sector – Exploration Tenure and discoveries. \nImplement a funding strategy for the cash negative NewCo with appointment of advisory and or partners using examples of templates to ensure commercial agreements that protect the students interests. \nFurther Education suggestions and contacts – Internship with a stock broker as they will selling your idea in the future. \nLanguage \nEnglish \nRequirements \nParticipants would require their own laptop and a stable high-speed internet connection to take part in this course. \nTarget Group\nThe course intended audience includes; \n\nExperienced industry professionals of larger companies seeking to pursue their own ideas.\nJunior industry professionals seeking to work in corporate or technical role.\nGovernment and or NGO officials seeking to understand the methodologies of the Junior Exploration Sector.
