SUMMARY:Entrepreneurship for scientists
DESCRIPTION:This course has been postponed! Please check back on the course website for details of new dates.\nPurpose and intended learning outcomes\nThis is an introductory course in entrepreneurship and business development for academic researcher and students in geology or mining and material science. The hypothesis is that a lot of academic researchers have ideas\, insights and technologies that may be turned into valuable business\, but they lack the competence in business development. The aim of the course is to educate in basic business development and help academic researchers with good ideas to take them one step further. \nPrerequisites (academic\, special skills needed)\nNo specific prerequisites. However\, there are a number of workshops in the course in which the students are supposed to develop business cases for their own ideas or technologies to be commercialized. Therefore\, it is excellent if you have an invention of your own to bring to the course to develop further. If you do not have an invention or technology to develop into a business\, you are still welcome and can follow the course by working with a selected demo invention. \nSchedule and time plan\n25. – 29.05.2020 \nVenue for classroom work\nRoyal Institute of Technolog (Drottning Kristinasväg 61b)\, Stockholm\, Sweden \nContent and modules\nThe course is five days long and will cover the following lectures: \n\nInnovation Due Diligence\nPatent Landscaping\nBusiness Model Canvas\nCustomer Assessment\nPitching for Larger Companies\n\nAll theoretical lectures will be follow by practical workshops in which you develop your own business case. \nInstruction and course literature\nNo specific literature to be read prior to the course. Documentation will be distributed during the course in form of PowerPoint decks. \nAssessment\nThe course will not end with a formal examination but with a pitch of your business case developed during the week in front of a jury. \nCourse responsible teachers\nErik Ronne (Research Institutes of Sweden; RISE) \nPracticalities\nApplication criteria and priority\n\nPriority will be given to students affiliated with EIT Raw Material organizations\, but applications are welcomed from other academic institutions and industry.\nCourse size is limited to 16 participants\nApply here.\n\nAccommodation (room and board)\nApproximate accommodation costs in Stockholm: 70 Euros per day. \nTravel\nTravel to Stockholm (Royal Technical University) is easiest via arrival at Stockholm Arlanda airport and train or bus to Stockholm city. \nS+H\, insurance\, Safety equipment and clothing\nNot applicable \nCourse stipends\n\nSuccessful admissions will be considered for a stipend to offset costs of accommodation and food\, and when possible travel. There is no registration fee to participate in courses offered through I-EDDA-RS.

SUMMARY:Lightweight Professional: Cast Irons
DESCRIPTION:  \nLightweight Professional is going online! All modules of the lightweight professional course are currently being converted to an online format.  There will be no classroom seminars in 2020. All further information and dates will be announced here soon.\nReducing the weight of structures has in recent years become a critical point of focus for many different sectors\, such as machine building\, transportation and civil construction. The appropriate handling of materials in lightweight design structures is the key success factor for preserving resources and reducing costs. Unfortunately\, practical experience often shows that designing and handling rules for new materials are not being respected. \nThe professional training concept underlying the »lightweight professional« courses address this issue. \nWithin these courses\, industrial employees (managers as well as engineers and technical staff members) will not only obtain information\, but also acquire the knowledge in a manner appropriate to their individual educational backgrounds.  Based on results from a recent Europe-wide survey\, the content and the format of the »lightweight professional courses« are designed to meet industrial needs. \nLightweight professional courses aim to deliver high quality content and ready-to-use practical information. Participants will experience an open environment atmosphere with the opportunity to exchange experiences with other participants and industrial branches. \nThe courses follow the requirements of ISO EN 17024 and are certified by an external accreditation body.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Raw Material Supply Chain Risk Management
DESCRIPTION:Sustainabill\, Ansys Granta and IVL will run a free web-session in which we will focus on raw material supply chain risk management for executives in supply chain management. In this initial web-session\, we will focus on practical issues on how to:\n–          Leverage your new learnings during corona-related supply chain challenges\,\n–          related to insufficient insights in your deep\, multi-tier materials supply chains\, the role of China or Italy in these and your dependency on single sources (possible at your Tier-2\, 3\, or 4)\,\n–          by getting started to understand and manage your deep\, multi-tier supply chains in a pragmatic\, efficient way\,\n–          to enable you to plan re-shoring and reducing single sourcing\, and to improve your insights in the sustainability of your supply chains\, including their CO2 footprint\,\n–          ultimately allowing you to manage your deep supply chains more actively. We cannot address these topics in great depth during this web-session\, but we will show you some practical tools that can help you. \nDepending on your feedback\, follow-up sessions will be planned\, leading up to our in-depth workshop in September during the EIT RM Summit in Berlin – to which we hope to warmly welcome you. We are looking forward to your participation in this one-hour web-session and work with you to bring Raw Material Supply Chain Risk Management to the next level! \nDate/time:          Thursday 28 May at 12.00 – 13.00 CET\nFormat:                Online webinar\nLink:                      Event registration (registration is mandatory)\nContact point:    Willem Bulthuis (email: willem.bulthuis@sustainabill.de)
