SUMMARY:Course: Risk Assessment in Innovation Projects
DESCRIPTION:The EIT RawMaterials Academy is offering training on Risk Assessment in Innovation Projects. This will serve to improve EIT RawMaterials funded education and upscaling projects through better management of project risks\, achieved by increased risk management capabilities of those managing and delivering the projects. \nObjectives \nAfter the training session\, trainees will: \n– Understand the importance of managing the risk of their project \n– Learn to identify\, assess and develop measures to manage the risks of their project \n– Learn to manage project risks by putting in place effective controls. \n– Understand how risk management activities fit in with the normal running of a project. \nTarget Audience \n– Researchers dealing with Upscaling projects \n– Researchers dealing with Education projects \n– Project Managers \n– KIC staff \nThe first edition of this two-day course will be run from 25 to 27 November. Subject to demand\, a second edition will be run from 27 to 29 November. \nFor further details\, please download the event schedule. You can reserve your place here.

SUMMARY:Short Course - An Introduction to Automated Mineralogy/ Automated Materials Characterization
DESCRIPTION:“Automated Materials Characterization” / “Automated Mineralogy” is an analytical technique based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image analysis coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). \nThis analysis method includes analytical systems such as the Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA)\, the QEMSCAN (Quantitative Evaluation of Minerals by Scanning Electron Microscopy) and others. With this analytical technique\, almost every kind of solid material can be analyzed\, regardless of whether the material is of natural or artificial origin. Examples for such materials are ores\, rocks\, minerals\, processing products\, recycling materials\, environmentally relevant materials\, metals\, alloys\, building materials\, special glasses\, and many more. By using “Automated Materials Characterization” technique you have the possibility to characterize your materials accurately\, to detect and reduce materials losses\, and to evaluate and optimize your processes. As a consequence\, this can save you process costs\, energy costs\, and production costs. \nThe course has the following objectives and outcomes:\n•History and fields of application of “Automated Materials Characterization”\n•Structure and outcomes of MLA and QEMSCAN software\n•Evaluation and value of results parameters \nCourse contents\n•Module 1: Introduction into “Automated Materials Characterization” / “Automated Mineralogy”\n•Module 2: Introduction into Mineral Liberation Analyzer (MLA) and QEMSCAN (Quantitative Evaluation of Minerals by Scanning Electron Microscopy)\n•Module 3: MLA Lab Session\n•Module 4: Data Processing and Analysis Results\n•Module 5: Practical Sessions \nFormat\nThe course is a combination of classroom lectures\, an MLA lab session and practical sessions. \nRequirements\nFor Module 5 (Practical Sessions)\, a laptop would be required. The required software will be given by the lecturers. \nFor registration\, agenda and more details\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Iron-rich Geopolymers Today
DESCRIPTION:RECOVER Project\, supported by EIT RawMaterials\, transforms metallurgical slags into porous and fire-resistant inorganic polymers exhibiting unique properties while being more sustainable. \nTake the opportunity to experience a first-of-a-kind working mobile production unit that upcycles slags into building materials. \nParticipate in our workshops where you will learn how to produce geopolymers and hybrid cements. Touch and feel an impressive installation made out of a range of slag-based formulations. \nFor registration and complete agenda\, please click here.
