SUMMARY:Course: Press and Sinter
DESCRIPTION:The Press and Sinter module will go into both fundamental and practical facets of the conventional powder processing route comprising pressing and sintering operations. \nThe two first days\, one-hour lectures with be given by academic and industrial experts\, starting with pressing and continuing with sintering. In both cases\, the courses will include fundamental\, technological and modellings issues. A more general lecture on material selection methods will end up the first day. Several lectures of the second day will focus on sintered steels\, as a major application of press and sinter process. \nThe third day will be fully devoted to lab work by using the facilities of SIMAP laboratory of Grenoble INP. The students will handle die pressing and free sintering devices\, analyze powder compressibilty and sintering shrinkage curves so as to identify densification mechanisms and observe the microstructure of sintered materials by electron microscopy. They will also be initiated to the numerical simulation of processes by the finite element and discrete element methods. \nIn the morning of the fourth day\, student teams will be formed and each team will be asked to design a PM material and process allowing for the fabrication of a specific component. The work will be by supervised by SIMAP staff. During the afternoon the students will visit a plant of Sintertech company\, in the Grenoble area\, where steel parts are fabricated\, mainly for the automotive industry. \nFinally\, in the morning of the fifth day\, two lectures will deal with specific applications of press and sinter processing and one on the common matter of entrepreneurship and innovation. Afterwards\, each team will present the outcome of its project. Finally\, a short exam will control the knowledge and expertise gained by the students during the full week. \nFor more information on Press and Sinter\, EPMA has a short introduction here. \nRegistration Deadline: 17 April 2019 \nSee the course programme and register here! \n\nAbout PM Life\n\n\nPM Life is a training programme supported by EIT RawMaterials to help develop the future of Powder Metallurgy and help provide a comprehensive training course to help you take the next step in your career. SUMMARY:RawMatCop Academy 2019: Copernicus for Raw Materials\, Discover the Potential!
DESCRIPTION:Raw materials are essential for human development and to fuel a future based on a decarbonized and circular economy. Yet\, several key challenges in the supply of mineral resources are their availability and the social and environmental impacts of their exploration\, extraction\, processing\, use and end-of-life. Earth Observation (EO) data and services from Copernicus provides a multiscale coverage of the Earth’s surface and can support smarter exploration\, more efficient and cost-effective primary production and boost environmental impact monitoring across the raw materials life cycle. \nThe RawMatCop Academy 2019\, Copernicus for RawMaterials\, offers a hands-on approach and will show you how to unlock the power of Copernicus for your company\, organization or research along the entire life cycle of raw materials. During the RawMatCop Academy 2019 you will have the opportunity to work directly with Copernicus’ Sentinel satellite data and open source software to demonstrate how it can be used for: \n\nSecuring primary and secondary mineral and material resources needed to transition to a sustainable and circular economy\, and\nMonitoring environmental impact and increasing safety.\n\nCourse Content: \n\nLectures from experts from industry and the research community on how Copernicus can make exploiting primary and secondary raw materials more cost-effective\, safer and help you comply with environmental legislation;\nInstruction on the basics of imaging technology\, optical and active remote sensing\, and using remote sensing in the raw materials context;\nPractical exercises in which you will work directly with Earth Observation data tools on case studies using Copernicus for raw materials exploration and environmental impact monitoring.\n\nTarget Participants: \n\nR&D industrial managers across the value chain\, from large industry but also SMEs and start-ups (e.g. exploration companies\, mining companies\, mining equipment manufacturers\, etc)\nSenior management in industries across the value chain\nDevelopment experts (professionals from government agencies)\nScientists and researchers in EU and national governmental agencies\nEnvironmental experts\nGeoscientists (mining engineers\, geologists\, geomatics\, geophysics\, etc.)\nDoctoral and post-doctoral researchers.\n\nRegistration: \nThe course is offered free of cost. All transportation\, accommodation and subsistence costs will be covered by the RawMatCop programme. \nBecause of limited capacity\, we are only able to invite 30 participants for the course. SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials Roadshow – Bari
DESCRIPTION:EIT RawMaterials\, initiated and funded by the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology)\, a body of the European Union\, is the largest consortium in the raw materials sector worldwide. Its vision is to develop raw materials into a major strength for Europe. Its mission is to enable sustainable competitiveness of the European minerals\, metals and materials sector along the value chain by driving innovation\, education and entrepreneurship. \nThe EIT has created the so-called KICs – Knowledge and Innovation Communities\, communities that aim to promote innovation and education in Europe in crucial sectors\, supporting entrepreneurship and enhancing the passage of new ideas from the incubation phase to the market. \nEIT RawMaterials\, which since 2016 has established one of its nodes in Rome\, is particularly committed to addressing the global challenge of supplying raw materials in Europe through programs and projects that aim to develop technology throughout the entire value chain of raw materials: from the exploration of resources\, to the mining industry\, from metallurgical processes to the replacement of critical or toxic raw materials\, from the recycling of end-of-life product materials to the design of products for the circular economy. \nAs part of its regional development programs\, EIT RawMaterials has created a Hub in the Puglia Region coordinated by ENEA\, in order to increase the involvement of local ecosystems in the activities of KIC and its partnership. The MedinHub will also aim at reaching new organizations and promoting the participation of the most innovative industries and SMEs\, as well as the involvement of the prestigious universities and research centers in the area. \nOn 19 June\, we invite all the stakeholders from the region to join the EIT RawMaterials Roadshow in Bari! See the event agenda here. \nJoin the EIT RawMaterials Roadshow in Bari!
