SUMMARY:Science to Business (S2B) workshop
DESCRIPTION:What?\nThe Science to Business (S2B) workshop is a short program for researchers and scientists that teaches you to create value from your own research and technology\, and takes you on a journey to discover commercial applications or services. \nThe goal is to: \n\ndevelop your entrepreneurial skills\nstimulate your research to have a business impact\nlet your research give shape to the society of tomorrow\napply innovation techniques and methodologies to your own research\n\nFor whom?\n\nS2B is organised for all PhD students linked to EIT Health\, EIT InnoEnergy or EIT RawMaterials. You will work on your own research which is linked to one of these areas.\nIdeally you are in the final years of research and already have an idea of the potential results or technologies that your research will lead to (such as a specific material\, process\, technology\, algorithm\, knowledge …)\n\nParticipants will be selected based on the topic and progress of their research\, their motivation and ambitions. A maximum of 20 participants will be selected. \nWhat’s in it for me?\nMore than 80% of the PhD researchers pursue a career in industry\, start their own company or work in the public sector. This workshop is useful to all of these career paths: \n\nYou are taught to understand the business context and the customer or user point of view. SUMMARY:Spring School on Circular Economy
DESCRIPTION:The Spring School on Circular Economy is organised in collaboration with the EIT RawMaterials funded Raw Materials Scenario (RaMaScene) project. The lead organiser is Leiden University’s Institute of Environmental Sciences (CML)\, and the school is supported by KU Leuven and the University of Bordeaux. The programme in short consists of: \nA total programme of 4 days\, plus one day of arrival and welcome reception. \n\nTwo days of introduction to tools like Life cycle assessment\, Material flow analysis\, and Input Output analysis\, and exercises with the RaMaScene tool\, that helps students to build circularity scenarios and make rough calculations on economic and environmental benefits. This part is given not only to the cohort of 15 PhD students\, but also to about 10 professionals that join this part of the course\nOne day of classes into circular economy policy making\nOne day that combines career counselling\, a review of grant options for young researchers\, exchanges on their own PhD\, and support in writing an outline postdoc proposal.\n\nAttendance is free and a selection process will take place. \nFor full details of the course\, visit our course directory\, and to apply for a place click here.

SUMMARY:SusCritMat Short Course on Electric Mobility
DESCRIPTION:At the course\, participants experienced a short version of a SusCritMat training school\, covering some typical SusCritMat training course modules. Participants will receive the supporting training material (presentations\, short films\, exercises). The course will cover several topics related to the sustainable management of Critical Raw Materials across the value chain with the case of electric mobility\, focusing especially on Cobalt and Lithium for EV batteries: theory and criticality assessment with Co and Li as a hands-on case\, primary and secondary sourcing of Co and Li\, future demand scenarios\, sustainability assessment of electric cars\, geopolitical aspects and certification potentials of Co and Li. \nTeachers include amongst others Prof Ester van der Voet\, University of Leiden\, Prof David Peck\, TU Delft\, Prof Steven Young\, University of Waterloo\, and Gus Gunn\, British Geological Survey. \nOn the evening of 9 April\, SusCritMat will offer a “gaming night” in the pub “The Old Bicycle Shop” with the SusCritMat trainers and game developer Katie Whalen where we play the “In the Loop Game” on CRMs and the circular economy – free drinks and snacks included! \nSee the event programme and register here! \n

SUMMARY:Course: Circular residue usage in the metallurgical industry
DESCRIPTION:After the great success of the first CIRRUS course at the Luleå University of Technology\, we cordially invite you to the second CIRRUS course at the University of Oulu in Finland. \nThe course on Circular Residue Usage in the Metallurgical Industry is developed within the EIT RawMaterials and it is aimed for professionals in metallurgical industry\, research institutes\, PhD students\, environmental agencies\, as well as decision makers. Engineers new in the area can get a quick start at the new job positions\, and experienced ones reach a broader knowledge on cross-sectorial opportunities. \nThe course includes a webinar introducing the course and the participants and also giving a brief overview on secondary materials\, their origin and characteristics as well as possible use. Moreover\, possible case studies for training will be discussed and initialised. The webinar is followed by a face-to-face intensive course and a final follow seminar for case study presentations. \nKnowledge on recirculation of residues that will be delivered covers secondary materials generated in different metallurgical industries as well as EOL products. Origin and characteristics of these materials in addition to the opportunities and the challenges in recycling to existing processes\, e.g. steelmaking\, ferroalloys and base metals extraction\, will be discussed. Pre-treatment methods\, agglomeration and specially designed processes for recycling will be also covered.
