SUMMARY:Course on Theoretical and Practical Aspects of Mechanical Rock/Rock Mass Excavation
DESCRIPTION:The training should give the participants a common theme about the application of mechanical excavation machines in mining and tunnelling – from the assessment of rock mass cuttability\, over the basic principles and methods of mechanical cutting to machine types and technologies. The training will end with application examples referring to real field cases. \nThis course is part of the project “CLC East Professional School” \nCourse Content \n\nCharacterization of rock and rock mass for cuttability\nCutting technology and methods in general and in detail\nMachine technology and types\nApplication knowledge and practical examples / field cases\n\nFormat \nThe course is combining classroom lectures with a laboratory and company tour (location of the lectures and laboratory tour will be Montanuniversität Leoben\, the company tour will be at the premises of Sandvik Mining and Construction GmbH). \nTarget Participants \nThis course has been designed for professionals from the mining and tunneling industry. \nRegistration Deadline \nSaturday\, 13 October 2018 \nMore details available here. \nFor information about the course and registration\, please follow the link.

SUMMARY:PANORAMA: Towards a comprehensive global physical materials & products input-output database @ Raw Materials Week 2018
DESCRIPTION:The PANORAMA project (Physical AccouNts Of RAw MAterial stock and flow Information Service) is an innovation project funded by the EIT RawMaterials that will start on 1 January 2019. Project partners are Leiden University/CML\, TNO\, Fraunhofer\, BRGM\, GEUS\, Ghent University\, UNU\, University of Bordeaux. \nThe EU lacks a comprehensive\, consistent and balanced supply chain and stock-flow materials database for many materials\, let alone one compatible with economic statistics like input-output tables. \nThe EIT RawMaterials is in an excellent position to support DG JRC in expanding the coverage of the RMIS\, which in turn can help the EIT RawMaterials and the wider community to prioritize improvement options including new EIT RawMaterials Community projects for materials management. The PANORAMA project will create the aforementioned database. \nWe will build upon the EXIOBASE string of projects\, PROSUM\, MICA\, ORAMA\, and closely coordinate our research with JRC to align with RMIS. During the Raw Materials Week 2018\, we organise a short information workshop on the project. The aim is to have an exchange with stakeholders on what user needs could be covered by the database. Also\, scientific and technical aspects can be discussed. \nLocation: Hotel Manhattan on Wednesday\, 14 November\, 14:00-15:30\, 1 minute North of the Raw Materials Week 2018 venue. \nTarget Participants\nEnvironmental scientists on MFA\, IOA\, LCA\, users of material flow information like waste management companies\, statistical experts\, material users. \nMore details about the PANORAMA project event
