SUMMARY:ETN & EIT RawMaterials Summer School “To mine or not to mine”
DESCRIPTION:On 10-12 September 2018\, the Summer School “To mine or not to mine – A multi-criteria assessment of the landfill mining of municipal and industrial solid waste deposits” will take place in Leuven\, Belgium. The Summer School is a joint initiative of the EU Horizon 2020 projects ETN SOCRATES and ETN NEW-MINE\, in collaboration with the EIT RawMaterials supported project IMAGINE. Further support is provided by SIM² KU Leuven\, EURELCO and the Arenberg Doctoral School (Leuven\, 29-3-2018).\n \nRationale for the Summer School \nResource scarcity\, climate change and increased pressure on environment and health necessitate the transition from a fossil-based\, linear economy to a low-carbon\, circular economy. What was considered as waste in the past\, becomes a resource for tomorrow. Increasing attention is given to the possibility of the mining and/or reprocessing of municipal and industrial solid waste deposits. But is it really feasible to mine these secondary deposits? Do we have the appropriate technology? Is it economically viable? Does the mining of these deposits indeed contribute to a safer environment and health situation? Does it lead to new CO2 reductions? And do people want a mining project “in their backyard”? \nOn 10-12 September 2017\, the joint ETN SOCRATES\, ETN NEW-MINE & EIT RawMaterials IMAGINE Summer School will be organised in Leuven\, Belgium. The Summer School aims at offering an integral approach for the assessment of landfill mining projects. The interdisciplinary training programme aims at going beyond technical assessment\, offering an approach to determine the value of landfill mining from an economic\, environmental\, social and policy  perspective. SUMMARY:PM Life: Lifelong Learning programme on Metal Injection Moulding
DESCRIPTION:PM Life is a new lifelong training programme\, supported by EIT RawMaterials\, aimed to help develop the future of Powder Metallurgy and help provide a comprehensive training course to those looking for a related career. The course will offer students chance to either attend the full five-week programme to learn about the whole industry or pick specific modules to further their knowledge in certain areas. Each week will be hosted in a different venue across five European countries to provide participants with a wide range of experiences and contacts within the Powder Metallurgy Industry. \nPM Life also offers an optional internship either in a factory or in a university\, to practice what has been discussed during the course in a working environment. \nAt the end of each module there will be a short exam after which a certificate will be presented. PM Life will help provide the knowledge and experience needed to help you take the next step in your career. \nMetal Injection Moulding\nMetal injection moulding (MIM) has over the past decade established itself as a competitive manufacturing process for small precision components which would be costly to produce by alternative methods. It is capable of producing in both large and small volumes\, complex shapes and from almost all types of materials including metals\, ceramics\, intermetallic compounds\, and composites. \nMetal injection moulding (MIM) is a development of the traditional powder metallurgy (PM) process and is rightly regarded as a branch of that technology. When using traditional processing powder is compacted in a mould which then has to be ejected which means parts with undercuts or projections at right angles to the pressing direction cannot be made directly.
