SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials at MINECLOSURE 2018
DESCRIPTION:MINECLOSURE 2018 will be the 12th International Conference on Mine Closure\, offering a multidisciplinary global forum to exchange views and developing capacity. The aim of this forum is to ensure that new mines are operated with closure in mind\, and old sites are closed economically\, while minimising environmental and social impacts. \nReclamation is an important and inseparable part of mining and compensates the unavoidable impact of mining activities on nature\, landscape and the society. Without this compensation\, mining would not be possible\, neither from the perspective of the approval procedures nor considering the acceptance of society. Unfortunately\, this is not a common practice in worldwide mining\, even in developed countries. \nMINECLOSURE 2018 Conference brings together various sectors\, such as active large and small scale mining\, abandoned mines\, marine mining or illegal mining. \nIn cooperation with the ACG and EIT RawMaterials\, the TU Bergakademie Freiberg will be hosting the MINECLOSURE 2018\, welcoming many experts from authorities\, planning companies\, universities as well as companies active in mining and reclamation. In addition to the presentations and posters\, there will be numerous opportunities for professional exchange and insights into successful mining and reclamation in Germany. \nEIT RawMaterials team will be present with a booth and Krzysztof Kubacki\, Innovation Hub Director (CLC East) will be a keynote speaker. More information will follow soon. \nThe conference will cover the following themes: \n\nlegal\, financial\, socio-economical and organizational aspects\nplanning\, modelling and monitoring\ncase studies for mine closure\nmine closure and mining infrastructure\nmine flooding\, balancing of groundwater deficits and pit lakes\nhydrogeochemistry\, AMD and treatments\ngeotechnical aspects\nbiodiversity and ecological aspects\nhandling of contamination and soil formation\naftercare\, marketing\, reorganization of land\, geotourism\n\nFor more information please see the event website.

SUMMARY:SAPII: Successful Application of Process Integration in Industry
DESCRIPTION:During this 3-day intensive course\, participants will learn how to develop\, apply and implement Process Integration (PI) in their industry. PI stands as a suite of rational engineering tools to maximize energy and resource efficiency at the system level. \nThe course covers theoretical aspects of PI\, with practical exercises to apply and get familiar with the presented methodologies. Real examples from different industries will illustrate the benefits of PI\, as well as its challenges including corporate structural barriers that may slow down successful application. \nThe course is primarily aimed for industry-based engineers\, MSc\, scientists\, PhD students\, and related stakeholders (academic\, government…) with an interest in the field of process engineering\, materials and metals processing\, mining and other energy intensive industries. Presentations will be given by European experts from the academia as well as from the industry.

SUMMARY:Short Course - Geochemical Exploration and Mapping
DESCRIPTION:Geochemical exploration has evolved over the past 30 years from traditionally focused (mineral) resource identification to a multi-element\, multi-media toolbox. What does it take to successfully tackle the challenge of geochemical exploration – from project planning to evaluation and product development? This toolbox is capable of delivering comprehensive understanding not only of resource-related issues but also of processes and complex environmental information. Such knowledge is needed for a broad array of interests\, from state agencies and governmental ministries via consultants to the mining and resource industry\, from mine development to remediation. \nAt the end of this course\, you will be able to design plans for geochemical exploration projects and you will be aware of all relevant obstacles that need to be addressed. This awareness allows you to ensure that any third party company will deliver to you what you need and that you can control their products and assess the degree of reliability\, based on thorough quality control procedures along the entire process chain. \nYou will also be able to formulate demands and to pinpoint your needs in order to receive targeted and thus economic results – be it from Third Party companies or from your own companies (or unit) departments (e.g.\, geochemical analytical laboratories). \nFinally\, you are able to “read” geochemical result information\, be it in form of raw data or displayed final processed data in maps of in tabular form. The obtained background understanding improves your standing in your position and enables you to order services e.g.\, from consultants and companies such as ALS\, ACT Labs etc. to provide your with what you really need and expect. \nRegistration deadline for the course is Monday\, 6 August\, 2018 \nFor more information about the course click here.
