SUMMARY:Dubrovnik International ESEE Mining School: Zero Waste Management
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the Dubrovnik International ESEE Mining school will be held from 20 to 25 November 2017 in Dubrovnik\, Croatia. \nThis year the school is a part of a project financed by EIT RawMaterials. University of Zagreb\, Faculty of Mining\, Geology and Petroleum Engineering\, is the project coordinator\, while the school is organised in collaboration with project partners from Montanuniversitaet Leoben and Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute. \nThe Dubrovnik International ESEE Mining School brings together international experts in the field of raw materials in the heart of the ESEE Region. Within the thematic workshops and project work the focus lies on direct knowledge transfer from renowned experts to the participants\, but also the creation of an open dialogue between graduate students\, scholars\, researchers\, the industry and the wider society. Focusing on recent developments within the mining industry and the development of the mining sector\, our program aims at transferring newfound\, innovative theoretical knowledge\, tested in practice\, to our participants. \nApplication\nAll of the information regarding applications\, this years’ lecturers and the exact schedule will be published on the schools’ website. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact the organisers via e-mail dim.esee@rgn.hr. \nAdditional information\nThe school will be held in the IUC Dubrovnik (Inter-University Centre) and this years’ topic will be Zero waste management. SUMMARY:Cross-KIC EIT RIS Dialogue Conference in Maribor\, Slovenia
DESCRIPTION:Innovation has a prominent role in Europe’s efforts to tackle major societal and environmental challenges. It is essential to continue to work to create the right climate for innovation in Europe\, to help create new industries and jobs. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is working towards this objective through its operational arms\, the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs)\, by accelerating innovation and supporting the creation of the conditions where innovation is more likely to thrive and generate breakthroughs. It does so through the collaboration and interlinking of leading entities from higher education\, research and business areas\, which are the three sides of the Knowledge Triangle. \nThe EIT Regional Innovation Scheme (EIT RIS) is the EIT Community’s outreach scheme. SUMMARY:BalticPlus Cross-Pitch Event
DESCRIPTION:Many issues that industries are facing can be efficiently solved with existing technologies nowadays. The most critical factor for Industry is thus the access to this untapped potential from the external innovators while the latter have little knowledge of the actual problems that Industry is facing. \nEIT RawMaterials and tech start-ups fund Prototron designed BalticPlus – the Cross-Pitch event to create an inspiring and symbiotic match-making platform for Industry and tech start-up representatives to co-create. \nFor this year\, the focus will be on Industry 4.0 to be aligned with the EU Presidency in Estonia who is taking the lead on debating on the digital transformation\, also called the “Fourth Industrial Revolution“. \nIn Industry 4.0\, humans\, physical and digital systems work together in an entirely new way. Robotics and other equipment remotely communicate with each other without or with little input from human operators. Large amount of data can be collected and harnessed efficiently thanks to the power of machine learning and visualisation. \nWith digitalisation and modern technologies such as drones and advanced automation\, the health and safety of human workers could be improved dramatically due to low exposure to dangerous environments or more efficient process control. Various data sources can be combined for better predictability and proactive actions in operational and business processes. For many industries\, the impact is the increased revenues\, market share\, and profits. \nFor the cross-pitching\, we expect participants from EIT RawMaterials’  Partners to pitch to pre-selected start-ups or idea holding teams who can validate their ideas on the Industrial challenges. \nTo make this symbiosis a success\, we plan the following: \n\nKeynote Session: Speakers from Industry 4.0\, Exploration and Mining sectors will talk about their industrial problems and challenges\nStart-up pitching & Match-Making Session: Idea holding and start-up teams will pitch and assigned to an Industrial challenge. They will be matched to Business & Industry experts  to work together in coaching and mentoring session\nFinal Pitching Competition: Teams will pitch their solutions linked to concrete Industrial challenges to the judging panel\nPrize: The best teams will get Prototron grant for prototyping\, Tehnopol start-up incubation programme and FastPass to EIT acceleration programmes\n\nKeynotes & Challengers\n\nSandvik Mining and Construction AB: Dr. Hamid-Reza Manouchehri\, Global Manager\, Process Intelligence and  Development\, from Sandvik Mining and Rock Technology AB\nGeological Survey of Finland (GTK):  Prof. Alan Butcher\, Geological Survey of Finland\nProEkspert – software and design company working closely with industries. German-Estonian Business Industry 4.0 Award Winner 2017\n\nChallenges for participating start-ups and researches\nFor this event\, the following industrial challenges will be proposed: \n\nDigitalisation of the Mineral Processing Plant for the Future of Green Mining\nMonitoring of Safety\, Health and Environmental Issues\nVisualising and communicating of mining industry activities to non-professionals (“Social License to Operate”)\n\nWe welcome the following technologies\n\nBig Data: Analytics & 3D Visualisation\, Virtual/Augmented Reality (AR/VR)\nArtificial and Cognitive intelligence in decision making\nCloud computing\, advanced security\nSimulation\nInternet of Things (IoT)\n\n Experts/mentors are coming from\n\nEIT RawMaterials\nEstonian Energy\nBusiness Angels (EstBan\, FiBAN members)\nTallinn Technical University\nTallinn Science Park Technopol – more than 10 years of tech start-ups incubation experience\nPrototron Fund – scouting\, accelerating and granting tech ideas and TTU IP commercialisation supporting\nMinistry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia – holding Industry 4.0 fostering programme in Estonia\nMinistry of Environment (TBC)\n\nHow\nApplications\, ideas one-pager can be submitted via an application-form with special marking “Industry”. Pre-accessed by Prototron accessors\, EIT RawMaterials and partners’ representatives. Shortlisted ideas will be filtered on the base of 1 minute pitch video to participate on the event according to their relevance for participating Industries.
