DESCRIPTION:G-STIC 2017 is the first in a series of Global Science\, Technology and Innovation Conferences. G-STIC is all about integrated technological solutions that potentially have a large impact on the achievement of the SDGs and climate change goals\, and that contribute to a systemic change. G-STIC 2017 will be structured around 10 thematic areas. DESCRIPTION:EIT RawMaterials CLC East and National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) would like to invite you to the “EIT RawMaterials: 2nd Greek Raw Materials Community Dialogue” in Athens\, Greece\, on the 23 and 24 October 2017. \nEIT RawMaterials CLC East along with NTUA in 2016 took the initiative to begin a series of events for the Greek Raw Materials Community with a great success gathering more than 150 stakeholders in a vivid and open dialogue. SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials at Manufuture 2017
DESCRIPTION:EIT RawMaterials will be present with a booth at Manufuture 2017 – Moving up the Value Chain. \nManufuture 2017 will focus on smart manufacturing\, Industry 4.0 in practice\, the factories of the future\, robotics\, the internet of things and smart products. The programme is taking shape here at the conference website and the registration is opened. Please find the registration terms and form below. \nManufuture 2017 will take place in autumn 2017\, during the second half of Estonia’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) and at a time when the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme\, Horizon 2020\, will be reaching its halfway point. \nManufuture 2017 will thus serve as a forum for stakeholders from industry\, universities\, research institutions and government to discuss opportunities for better implementation of the EU Framework Programme for research and innovation as well as respective national initiatives. \nIn the course of its EU presidency\, Estonia will be paying attention to how to shape the positions of different stakeholders regarding general and sectoral industrial policies in the context of the European Union. \nFor more information and agenda\, please follow the link.

SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials at World Resources Forum 2017
DESCRIPTION:The successful achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the implementation of the Paris Agreement require new technologies and a paradigm shift in the use of raw materials towards a circular and sustainable future. Strategic Raw Materials are indispensable for a sustainable world-wide access to energy\, information\, and new forms of mobility. Considering a variety of global and regional factors\, however\, these materials can bear a high supply risk. \nAccording to the Brundtland report\, Sustainable Development is a process of change in which the exploitation of resources\, the direction of investments\, the orientation of technological development\, and institutional change are made consistent with future as well as present needs. Where material supply risks exist or availability may be accompanied by environmental and other impact\, future supply and demand strategies of these materials have to be thoroughly considered. \nIn order to provide a sound basis for these considerations\, a transparent assessment of resources – including also the impact of breakthrough technologies and their socio-economic implications – is critical for assuring the materials availability for accomplishing the Sustainable Development Goals in the long-term. The United Nations Framework Classification for Resources (UNFC) is an internationally applicable scheme for the classification and reporting of energy and mineral resources. UNFC classifies resources in three dimensions: knowledge and uncertainty about the resource\, technical feasibility to attain them\, and socio-economic viability. Current efforts such as the COST Action MINEA aim at integrating anthropogenic resources into Resource Classification Frameworks. Such undertakings are of fundamental importance to estimate global and regional recycling potentials in order to keep materials in the economic cycle and thus ensuring sustainable availability of Strategic Raw Materials. \nWS 4: Strategic Raw Materials and Sustainable Development\nThe session at World Resources Forum 2017 will cover crucial aspects of Strategic Raw Materials management\, their integration into classification frameworks\, their potential for a circular economy\, and their role in Sustainable Development. Speakers include experts in criticality assessment\, resource classification\, resource recovery\, and sustainable management of Strategic Raw Materials. \nSpeakers \nThe workshops aims at presenting talks from speakers with a variety of backgrounds in academia\, industry\, governance\, and international science and policy cooperation. Talks should ideally target the intersection of criticality\, resource classification schemes and sustainable development goals\, discuss ideas to bring together these topics\, or present ongoing activities in the field. \nEIT RawMaterials will be represented by Dr Karen Hanghøj\, CEO at EIT RawMaterials\, and Dr Roland Gauss\, Thematic Officer at EIT RawMaterials. \nAgenda\nPlease follow the link to see the agenda.

DESCRIPTION:On 24 October 2017 at World Resources Forum 2017 join session WS 3: RISK & RACE – The game of Entrepreneurship in a Circular Economy.\nCome and engage in the serious game ‘RISK & RACE’\, a boardgame introducing you to entrepeneurship in a Circular Economy!\nThe RISK & RACE game is an engaging and hands-on way to learn about the opportunities and challenges of the circular economy. It is a table top board game\, designed to induce an entrepreneurial mind-set and introduce players to entrepreneurial decision making and circular economy business models. And of course\, it is also fun and challenging\, just as a game should be! \nThroughout the gameplay\, players will gain insight into: \n\nThe difference between linear and circular business models.\nCircular economy strategies\, such as circular product design\, recycling and remanufacturing.\nCircular business models\, such as pay-per-use\, take-back systems and life time extension.\nThe effects of investments on their business performance and resilience against external events.\nCorporate social responsibility and sustainability.\n\nAfter playing RISK & RACE\, you will have a better understanding of how circular economy strategies and business models can contribute to a company’s resilience and success.
