SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials at EUROMAT 2017
DESCRIPTION:On 17-22 September in Thessaloniki\, Greece\, the 15th European Congress and Exhibition on Advanced Materials and Processes\, EUROMAT 2017\, will for the first time offer a specific focus area on Raw Materials. The FEMS EUROMAT conference is the premier international congress in the field of materials in Europe. More than 2000 participants are expected to attend\, not only from the European countries but also from the Americas\, Asia and Australia. This year the conference celebrates the 30th year of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS). \nSession H3 will be on Materials Life Cycle Approach and Flow Analysis. The session will be presented by EIT RawMaterials and ESM Foundation\, the Swiss Foundation for Rare Metals. Invited keynote speakers: Luis Tercero\, Armin Reller\, and Christian Hagelüken. \nSession G will be on Critical Raw Materials in Energy Technologies and Future Mobility. Roland Gauss\, Thematic Officer of EIT RawMaterials\, will be a keynote speaker at this session. \nWe look forward to receiving your abstracts. Submission deadline is 10 March 2017. \nPlease find more information on the webpage. \nContributions from different angles and methodologies are welcomed. This includes studies related to life cycle assessments and materials flow analyses as well as modified approaches such as criticality analyses\, life cycle sustainability assessments\, value chain mappings\, economic input-output LCA\, or socio-economic assessments. \n

SUMMARY:Symposium I - Solutions for Critical Raw Materials under Extreme Conditions at the next E-MRS Fall Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On 18-21 September 2017 the “Symposium I – Solutions for critical raw materials under extreme conditions”\, co-organised by the EIT RawMaterials project EXTREME coordinated by ENEA\, will be held at the E-MRS 2017 Fall Meeting. \nIn the framework of the initiatives aimed at the efficient and sustainable use of critical raw materials (CRMs) for the European Union\, a dedicated Symposium I – Solutions for critical raw materials under extreme conditions will be held during the next E-MRS Fall Meeting\, one of the most important European conferences on material science\, at the Warsaw University of Technology from 18 to 21 September. In particular\, the symposium is focused on the optimization in the use of CRMs under challenging conditions of temperature\, wear\, friction\, load\, corrosion\, etc.\, and it is co-organized by the network of infrastructures EXTREME – a network of European partners coordinated by ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies\, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) through a project funded by EIT RawMaterials – together with the COST Action CRM-EXTREME and the EIP Raw Materials commitment SUBST-EXTREME. \nThe symposium aims to provide a unique platform to a wide range of international researchers and companies who are engaged in performing cutting edge multidisciplinary research on strategic critical raw materials (CRMs) substitution\, new materials design\, LCA\, recycling\, and technological solutions for circular economy\, for applications of CRMs under severe conditions reached in technological and industrial sectors such as transportation\, mechanical machining\, energy\, and construction. \nA representative from the Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials Unit of the European Commission and a representative from EIT RawMaterials will also participate to present an overview of the ongoing European strategies and activities in the considered fields. \nContributions through oral or poster presentations are welcome. Abstracts can be submitted directly at the conference website. \nThe deadline for abstract submission is: 16 June 2017 \nAfter regular peer review process\, the full papers will be published in the open access journal IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering (IOP Publishing). \nFor more information: Daniele Valerini daniele.valerini@enea.it\, or info@network-extreme.eu \nLearn more about the EXTREME project here.

SUMMARY:Raw Materials University Day at Tallinn University of Technology
DESCRIPTION:Tallinn University of Technology will host the RawMaterials University Day on 19 September 2017. \nThe main focus of the day will be exploration and mining\, especially automation and mechatronics (mining and exploration robotics). Parallel programmes will take place in both Estonian and English. At the university’s innovation and business centre\, MEKTORY\, students can see first-hand the possibilities for clean and green technologies and prototyping within the raw materials field. Laboratory tours and a site visit will complete the interactive programme. \nFor more information please contact Veiko Karu\, veiko.karu@ttu.ee \n
