SUMMARY:Summer School 'Innovations on Raw Materials'
DESCRIPTION:On 4-9 September in Banská Štiavnica (Slovakia) the Summer School Innovations on Raw Materials will take place. The Summer School is an initiative supported by the Faculty BERG (Technical University of Košice\, Slovakia)\, TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany)\, and the city of Banská Štiavnica. \nThe program of the Summer School combines both theoretical lectures and practical issues of raw materials obtaining\, with special emphasis on innovations. All the program activities besides the informative subjects\, should lead to networking and developing future international relationships. \n\n\n\n\nYou can find the preliminary program here. \n\n\nThe Summer School program provides a unique opportunity to the participants to learn more about recent and future trends in raw materials from various perspectives. \nA major part of the Summer School expenses\, including accommodation and transportation from and to Bratislava airport (if necessary)\, will be covered by the organizers. The number of registrations is limited. \n\n\n\n\nFor more information and registration\, please contact prof. Pavol Rybár\, the representative of GeoTour organization – an organizer of the Summer School. \nWe look forward to meeting you at the Summer School and sharing your experiences in a wonderful historic mining town of Banská Štiavnica.

SUMMARY:SETI 2017 Summer School
DESCRIPTION:SETI 2017 Summer School is an EIT RawMaterials initiative hosted at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento. The Summer school is open to 30 master courses students selected on a merit basis and will be activated if the minimum number of 15 participants is reached. SETI 2017 aims at bringing students together\, for a period of one week\, to work in a team on exploring challenges and opportunities in an increasingly relevant thematic area such as the use of innovative raw materials to replace critical ones\, aiming to more efficient energy generation\, energy saving and sustainability. \nThe summer school is part of the innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) education component of the EIT RawMaterials. The principal objectives of SETI 2017 can be summarized as follows: \n\ndemonstrate the importance of replacing existing critical raw materials in the wide fields of energy (generation\, savings) and sustainability;\nidentify the market needs and business opportunities in the area;\nidentify the technology and its level of readiness\, teach the students how to transform the gained knowledge into concrete business proposals and coach them how to present the pitches to companies or investors.\n\nFormat of the Summer School\nSETI 2017 contains focus-lectures of academics and practitioners\, project work\, usability tests\, customer validation work\, field visits and socializing events. The focus is put on: business project work\, team building\, (personal) networking\, cultural exchange\, knowledge on the interaction between ethics and society and creating global awareness of societal and business trends.\nDuring the week\, students are confronted with involved stakeholders to consider the sustainability and relevance of their ideas. The course emphasizes multidisciplinarity and leverages on diversity as a key to innovation. The accent will be on key issues related to innovative materials and technologies. The applied approach is based on the following pillars: \n\na balanced combination of Theory and Practice;\nthe combination of lectures with practical tutorials\, mentoring\, study visits\, and teamwork;\nsocial events to identify project ideas.\n\nThroughout the summer school\, students will work in teams of 5-6 participants to craft and develop into projects the ideas the solutions they have identified to address the technical problems presented to them. Each team will have to solve a challenge prepared and coached by industry experts. \nHow to apply\nPotential candidates are requested to fill out the application form and to provide any relevant documentation (by email to seti2017@unitn.it).\nThe whole initiative is valued 2 ECTS. For all information\, please see the Application Call in the Box Download. \nDue to the generous contribution of the EIT RawMaterials\, the participation to the event is free of charge for the selected students. \nDeadlines\nJuly 30\, 2017: call for application closes\nAugust 2\, 2017: confirmation of places for selected participants\nAugust 7\, 2017: confirmation of participation by selected students \nContact\nSETI 2017 Summer School Secretariat\nVanessa Maria Caleca\nseti2017@unitn.it \nFor more information and application\, please visit the official page of the SETI 2017 Summer School.

SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials Side Event at ICEEM09
DESCRIPTION:On 6-9 September in Bologna\, Italy\, EIT RawMaterials CLC South\, within the 9th International Conference on Environmental Engineering and Management (ICEEM09)\, will support 10 PhD Students (or PhD graduates that have obtained their PhD in 2016) with refunds for travelling expenses (travel and accommodation). \nThe ICEEM is an important dissemination platform that strives at each edition to bring together specialists to discuss novel research and to develop inter- and multi-disciplinary project ideas in the wide field of environmental sustainability. \nICEEM09 will focus on the themes of Circular Economy and Environmental Sustainability\, the new European paradigms for economic development. Therefore\, ICEEM09 strongly encourages researchers\, members of the academia\, industry and society representatives to contribute with presentations that focus on innovation\, multi-disciplinarity and cross-sectorial research approaches related to environmental problems and sustainability. \nFor more information and application\, please click here.

SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials at 3rd Fraunhofer Industry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Magnetic materials are indispensable components for many future technologies\, as well as for green energy production. In the coming years this need will almost definitely continue to grow steadily. In this contest\, EIT RawMaterials will be present at the Industry Workshop ‘Magnetic materials\, rare earth and value-added chains’\, whithin the framework of the Fraunhofer-lead project ‘Criticality of Rare Earths’.\n\nThe objectives of the lead project are to increase resource efficiency\, recycling and substitution of the strategic high-tech metals Neodymium and Dysprosium\, indispensable in the production of permanent magnets due to their excellent magnetic properties. \nEmployees from eight Fraunhofer institutes are working together on new replacement materials\, more efficient production technologies and new reusable and reusable concepts. The higher aim is to halve by 2018 the demand for these two rare earths for the production of magnets and to completely replace them in perspective\, . \nEIT RawMaterials will be represented by Dr Roland Gauß\, who will be giving a speech on Friday 8 September 2017 at 14:30. \nThe workshop will take place on 7 and 8 September 2017. \nClick here for more information.
