SUMMARY:EIT RawMaterials at the Life Cycle Management Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Life Cycle Management conference series is the leading forum worldwide bringing together more than 600 scholars and practitioners from more than 40 countries working in industry\, academia and public institutions in the domain of life cycle sustainability and circular economy. The LCM 2017 organisation committee aims at increasing the share of businesses participants. \nAdopting and implementing a life cycle perspective is crucial when developing sustainable solutions. Sound decision making and strategic planning\, taking into account environmental\, economic and social aspects of different options and scenarios\, obviously needs transparent and objective life cycle frameworks\, methodologies and tools. \nOn 3-6 September in Luxembourg City\, Luxembourg\, the conference thread of LCM 2017 is: “Designing sustainable technologies\, products and policies: from science to innovation”\, aiming at demonstrating the implementation of Life Cycle approaches. The objective is to discuss and advance the implementation of Life Cycle approach and Circular Economy along the businesses value chain\, supporting environmental\, social and economic sustainability related to the development of industrial technologies\, products\, services and policies. \nEIT RawMaterials will be present with a booth at LCM 2017. \nThe EIT RawMaterials community brings together many European key actors from industry\, research and academia. It has the mission to boost competitiveness\, growth and attractiveness of the European raw materials sector via radical innovation and guided entrepreneurship. Initiated by the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology) and funded by the European Commission\, it runs an important portfolio of actions and projects aimed at realising new\, innovative solutions to secure the supplies and improve the raw materials sector all along its life cycles and value chains. Indeed\, life cycle management is an indispensable topic in this context. \nRegistration deadline: Friday\, 25 August \n\nIn order to register and learn more about the conference click here \n\nFor further enquiries contact: \n\nMARYLÈNE MARTIN\, LCM2017@list.lu

SUMMARY:Summer School 'Innovations on Raw Materials'
DESCRIPTION:On 4-9 September in Banská Štiavnica (Slovakia) the Summer School Innovations on Raw Materials will take place. The Summer School is an initiative supported by the Faculty BERG (Technical University of Košice\, Slovakia)\, TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany)\, and the city of Banská Štiavnica. \nThe program of the Summer School combines both theoretical lectures and practical issues of raw materials obtaining\, with special emphasis on innovations. All the program activities besides the informative subjects\, should lead to networking and developing future international relationships. \n\n\n\n\nYou can find the preliminary program here. \n\n\nThe Summer School program provides a unique opportunity to the participants to learn more about recent and future trends in raw materials from various perspectives. \nA major part of the Summer School expenses\, including accommodation and transportation from and to Bratislava airport (if necessary)\, will be covered by the organizers. The number of registrations is limited. \n\n\n\n\nFor more information and registration\, please contact prof. Pavol Rybár\, the representative of GeoTour organization – an organizer of the Summer School. \nWe look forward to meeting you at the Summer School and sharing your experiences in a wonderful historic mining town of Banská Štiavnica.

SUMMARY:Expert Forum Materials and Technologies for Future Mobility
DESCRIPTION:Lightweight materials are key to the Mobility of the Future in order to increase energy efficiency and driving distance. Introducing new materials and materials combinations come with challenges and opportunities for new kinds of designs and manufacturing methods. Key challenges lie in optimization of material performance\, safety\, production costs\, the use of critical raw materials\, and recyclability. \nOn 5-6 September\, to discuss the next generation of lightweight material solutions\, EIT RawMaterials is organising the second Expert Forum Materials and Technologies for Future Mobility in Metz\, France. \nThe workshop addresses innovation and education in the field of lightweight material solutions for the automotive market as well as aviation and aerospace. The event will be used as a platform to present results of EIT RawMaterials projects in the field and to reach out to external partners from industry and academia. High strength steels\, fiber reinforced composites\, aluminum and magnesium alloys\, as well as ceramics and biomaterials\, will be considered. There will be room for discussions\, matchmaking and finding new partners for future collaboration activities. \nFor registration\, please click here.\nPlease click on the image below to see the event agenda.\n \n

SUMMARY:SETI 2017 Summer School
DESCRIPTION:SETI 2017 Summer School is an EIT RawMaterials initiative hosted at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento. The Summer school is open to 30 master courses students selected on a merit basis and will be activated if the minimum number of 15 participants is reached. SETI 2017 aims at bringing students together\, for a period of one week\, to work in a team on exploring challenges and opportunities in an increasingly relevant thematic area such as the use of innovative raw materials to replace critical ones\, aiming to more efficient energy generation\, energy saving and sustainability. \nThe summer school is part of the innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) education component of the EIT RawMaterials. The principal objectives of SETI 2017 can be summarized as follows: \n\ndemonstrate the importance of replacing existing critical raw materials in the wide fields of energy (generation\, savings) and sustainability;\nidentify the market needs and business opportunities in the area;\nidentify the technology and its level of readiness\, teach the students how to transform the gained knowledge into concrete business proposals and coach them how to present the pitches to companies or investors.\n\nFormat of the Summer School\nSETI 2017 contains focus-lectures of academics and practitioners\, project work\, usability tests\, customer validation work\, field visits and socializing events. The focus is put on: business project work\, team building\, (personal) networking\, cultural exchange\, knowledge on the interaction between ethics and society and creating global awareness of societal and business trends.\nDuring the week\, students are confronted with involved stakeholders to consider the sustainability and relevance of their ideas. The course emphasizes multidisciplinarity and leverages on diversity as a key to innovation. The accent will be on key issues related to innovative materials and technologies. The applied approach is based on the following pillars: \n\na balanced combination of Theory and Practice;\nthe combination of lectures with practical tutorials\, mentoring\, study visits\, and teamwork;\nsocial events to identify project ideas.\n\nThroughout the summer school\, students will work in teams of 5-6 participants to craft and develop into projects the ideas the solutions they have identified to address the technical problems presented to them. Each team will have to solve a challenge prepared and coached by industry experts. \nHow to apply\nPotential candidates are requested to fill out the application form and to provide any relevant documentation (by email to seti2017@unitn.it).\nThe whole initiative is valued 2 ECTS. For all information\, please see the Application Call in the Box Download. \nDue to the generous contribution of the EIT RawMaterials\, the participation to the event is free of charge for the selected students. \nDeadlines\nJuly 30\, 2017: call for application closes\nAugust 2\, 2017: confirmation of places for selected participants\nAugust 7\, 2017: confirmation of participation by selected students \nContact\nSETI 2017 Summer School Secretariat\nVanessa Maria Caleca\nseti2017@unitn.it \nFor more information and application\, please visit the official page of the SETI 2017 Summer School.
